Development Course Descriptions
Basic Leadership (#1000)
Prerequisite: Basic Orientation #1050 or #1051
This course is a must for new leaders (Except - see Course #1001). This course includes information on getting started, troop organization, parents' meetings, forms, service unit and council information, leadership responsibilities, where to get help and information, hints for conducting the first few troop meetings. Orientation courses are given by trained service team members and must be completed before taking the leadership courses. (2 TCH)
Safety-Wise Introduction Home Study (#3100)
One leader in addition to the troop's first aider, is required to take this course. Safety-Wise, the safety information manual for all Girl Scout activities, is a vital resource for all adults who work with girls. This home-study course provides an introduction to the manual, an understanding of when to consult it, and an opportunity for hands-on learning. The questionnaire should be completed and returned to the council office for development credit. (2 TCH)
Age Level Leadership Courses
Prerequisites: Basic Leadership (#1000)
Brownie Leadership (#1002)
Junior Leadership (#1003)
Teen Advisor Age Level (#1004)
Leadership development is required for new leaders and co-leaders and all experienced leaders and co-leaders moving up to a new program age level.
Experienced leaders should take a course for the new level before the troop begins the new level.

All leaders are required to complete leadership development within one year of working with the troop.
Daisy Leader Quick Start (#1001)
This course includes an introduction to Girl Scouting, prepares Daisy leaders to hold parent meetings and provides hands-on activities for use in the troop setting. It is offered in group sessions and in one-on-one sessions in service units. Check with your service team member to register for this class. (3 TCH)
Troop Camping Certification Level 2 (#2004)
At least one adult (not necessarily the troop leader) must have this course before a troop can go camping. It is the troop's camp-certified adult's responsibility to attend pre-camp preparatory meetings with the girls. The adult helps the girls prepare for the camping experience and then accompanies them on the camping trip. This overnight course focuses on out-door progression, outdoor skills and outdoor program resources. Depending on the time of year, participants will sleep in either a heated camp lodge or a raised platform tent unit. There is a $5 fee. (16 TCH)
A refresher course is available for those leaders who haven't camped in a few years since certification.
Girl Scout First Aider Series: American Red Cross
This is a series of 2 safety courses: CPR, and First Aid (7 TCH). The series includes all courses required for certification as a First Aider for Girl Scout activities. You may also choose to take these classes separately, CPR (#3213), and First Aid (#3205)
Girl Scout First Aider Series: American Heart Association
This is a series of a one day or 2 day courses: CPR, and First Aid (7 TCH). The series includes all courses required for certification as a First Aider for Girl Scout activities.
