The Adult Recognition System The comprehensive adult recognition system was approved May 20, 1986. On June 23, 1987, Seal of Ohio Council Board of Directors asked the Council Recognition Committee to act for them in administering the adult recognition system in the council. Please note: The purpose and criteria/requirements are from the GSUSA booklet, Adult Recognitions in Girl Scouting. Slight adaptations in procedures have been made by the Recognition Committee for use in Seal of Ohio Council.
Presentation of Awards Awards approved in the service unit may be presented in the service unit on Girl Scout Leader’s Day (April 22). All awarded recognitions requiring approval of the Council Recognition Committee may be given at service unit, area or council recognition events depending on the request of the nominating individual or group. All recipients of the Appreciation Pin, Honor Pin, Thanks Badge and Thanks Badge II will be given coverage in Springboard and local newspapers. The Honor Pin, Thanks Badge and Thanks Badge II should be presented by the president or a board member appointed by the president at the annual council meeting.
Awards for Community Support For groups or individuals supportive of Girl Scouting in the community, a Council Appreciation Certificate, plaque or other item from the Girl Scouts Resource Store is appropriate — no approval is necessary.
Other Ways to Recognize Service Consider items from the Girl Scout Equipment Catalog and/or ideas and handiwork of girl members and adults as appropriate for many occasions.
Employer Recognition of Volunteer Time Many employers have programs in place to financially recognize contributions of time and expertise given by adults (leaders and other volunteers). If your employer has such a program and wishes to contribute to Girl Scouts–Seal of Ohio Council as an organization, please arrange to receive guidelines and forms from your place of work and enlist the assistance of your field executive in determining the appropriate amount of donated time and verification of your Girl Scout volunteer affiliation.
When the check is written to Girl Scouts–Seal of Ohio Council, it is considered a direct donation to the Council from the company in compliance with our 501c3 organizational requirements. If the employer wishes to contribute directly to the troop for which you are affiliated, you will need to make arrangements with them to have the check written to your troop or in your name.
