Keep the Promise! 2008
On April 24, members of the central and southern Ohio community celebrated the accomplishments of some of the most dynamic Girl Scouts in the state at Keep the Promise, Girl Scouts-Seal of Ohio Council’s annual Leadership Development Conference and Recognition Luncheon. Girls who have earned Girl Scouts’ top honors- the Girl Scout Gold Award and the Girl Scout Silver Award- were invited to take part in Keep the Promise to be publicly recognized for their service and to further develop their potential through workshops pertaining to leadership and communication. Girls also met with representatives from some of the area’s largest employers to explore various careers.
In addition to attending the leadership conference, the girls were honored at a recognition luncheon attended by professionals from throughout central and southern Ohio. To kick off the lunch program, Ohio’s First Lady Frances Strickland offered remarks on the significance of Girl Scouting in her life and even led the group in singing an old Girl Scout favorite. Silver Award recipient, Nada Naiyer, and Gold Award recipient, Michelle Schultheis, then shared a little about their individual projects. Next, Gale Hacker, Education Center Director for the Homeless Families Foundation, discussed how Girl Scouts, through their Gold and Silver Award projects, are helping the center realize its mission.
The recognition luncheon concluded with a keynote address by Supreme Court Justice Maureen O’Connor. Justice O’Connor shared her experiences as a Girl Scout and encouraged the Gold and Silver Award recipients to take advantage of opportunities that will help them develop them into well-rounded adults. Through Keep the Promise 2008, Girl Scouts-Seal of Ohio Council linked Gold and Silver Award recipients with the tools necessary to continue succeeding and then introduced the community to its next generation of dynamic women leaders.
