Appreciation Pin 
The Appreciation pin recognizes an adult who has delivered outstanding service to at least one geographic area, service unit, or program delivery audience.
Criteria:
- The candidate is a registered Girl Scout adult.
- The candidate has provided outstanding service to a geographic area or program delivery audience in a way that furthers the council’s goals.
- The service goes beyond the expectations for the position.
Nomination: An individual or group familiar with the service performed submits an application or narrative that documents the service and it’s scope and impact to the council’s recognitions task group.
Two individuals or groups familiar with the service performed submit letters of endorsement to the council’s recognitions task group.
Approval: The recognitions task group reviews the application or narrative account and the letters of endorsement and recommends approval or denial to the council board of directors. The council board of directors approves or denies the award and notifies the recognitions task group and nominating group or individual.
Potential candidates for the Appreciation pin could be the following:
- A corporate volunteer who recruits coworkers to lead or sponsor troops or provide career mentors for girls from under-represented populations in the council.
- A person who develops and implements a successful family partnership program that exceeds financial goals.
- A geographic area director or program delivery team leader whose managements of the area or team results in an increase in membership ratio in all groups and a stable retention pattern over several years.
- A consultant who develops and implements an interactive pluralism program that helps girls and adults develop a grater appreciation of people who are different from themselves.
- A staff member who has successfully established and supported a variety of program delivery methods in an area that results in creased girl and adult membership from under-represented populations.
- The manager of a highly successful product sale.
- A day camp director whose effective management results in an increase in participation by girls and adults over a period of time.
Form of Recognition: The Appreciation pin is a square gold tone pin depicting rhe Girl Scout logo. It is worn on the right side of the uniform above the personalized identification pin.
A certificate is also available.
Note: The Appreciation pin only differs significantly from the Outstanding Volunteer Award in the increased level of approval required. This encourages increased recognition of adults at the area level and provides greater flexibility in the council’s adult recognition system.
