Reaching 40 is good!
Girl Scouts Meets Key Developmental Assets
The Search Institute, a national research firm, conducted a survey of more than 100,000 youth in 213 cities nationwide. From the results, The Search Institute identified forty developmental building blocks that help young people grow into healthy, caring and responsible adults.
These tools are listed in eight categories: support, empowerment, boundaries and expectations, constructive use of time, commitment to learning, positive values, social competencies, and positive identity. Girl Scouts - Seal of Ohio Council currently provides programs, services and experiences that meet 30 of the 40 criteria.
One of the major deficiencies for America’s youth is in constructive use of time. Only 19% of youth spent time in activities such as music, theater and art. Girl Scouting provides expanded opportunities for girls to be involved in fun and exciting activities that promote and encourage their artistic expression while offering them a constructive outlet for their creativity and feelings. In addition to the arts, Girl Scouts - Seal of Ohio Council provides a wide array of program opportunities related to the environment, community service, science and technology, health and fitness, entrepreneurship, culture, and more. Council sponsored events are published in the Program Event Planner as well as in Totally Me .
